Connect your AI agent

Run Rank It For Me from Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or your own agent. Ask it what changed this week, have it go through the weekly list, or have it look up a competitor. When a page needs writing, we write it with live research and a fact-check, and your agent brings it to you to approve. It connects over MCP, the standard AI agents use to reach other tools.

What your agent can do

An agent sees what you see in Rank It For Me and works under the same rules. When you connect it, you choose which of these it gets.

PermissionWhat it allows
SeeYour sites, what changed this week, the weekly list, jobs and drafts, site health, AI answers, rankings and links.
Research and writeLook up a competitor, research searches, check Google’s results, track searches and AI questions, approve or dismiss jobs, and have us write the drafts.
Save to your siteSend an approved draft to your Shopify store or WordPress site as a draft, and undo it.

Connect your agent

Every agent uses the same server address. Claude and ChatGPT sign in with your account. The others use an API key you create in Rank It For Me.

Server address
https://staging.rankitforme.com/mcp

Claude

Works in Claude on the web, desktop and phone. You sign in once, so there’s no key to paste.

  1. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner does this under Organization settings.
  2. Click + Add, then Add custom connector. Name it Rank It For Me and paste https://staging.rankitforme.com/mcp.
  3. Click Connect, sign in to Rank It For Me and choose what Claude can do.

ChatGPT

Needs a paid ChatGPT plan, and a workspace admin may have to allow it. You sign in once, so there’s no key to paste.

  1. Open Plugins in ChatGPT (chatgpt.com/plugins), click the plus button and choose Add custom MCP server.
  2. Name it Rank It For Me, and under Connection paste https://staging.rankitforme.com/mcp. Choose OAuth for sign-in.
  3. Confirm, choose Create as a plugin, then sign in to Rank It For Me and choose what ChatGPT can do.

Claude Code

Run this once in your terminal.

  1. Create an API key in Rank It For Me under Account, then AI agents.
  2. Run the command, then type /mcp in Claude Code to check it’s connected. Add --scope user to use it in every project.
Terminal
claude mcp add --transport http rankitforme https://staging.rankitforme.com/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"

Codex

Codex reads the key from your shell, so it never sits in the config file.

  1. Create an API key in Rank It For Me under Account, then AI agents. Then add export RIFM_API_KEY="your key" to your shell profile.
  2. Add these lines to ~/.codex/config.toml and restart Codex.
~/.codex/config.toml
[mcp_servers.rankitforme]
url = "https://staging.rankitforme.com/mcp"
bearer_token_env_var = "RIFM_API_KEY"

Cursor

Add the server to your Cursor settings file.

  1. Create an API key in Rank It For Me under Account, then AI agents. Then add export RIFM_API_KEY="your key" to your shell profile.
  2. Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or .cursor/mcp.json in one project) and turn it on under MCP in Cursor’s settings.
~/.cursor/mcp.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "rankitforme": {
      "url": "https://staging.rankitforme.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer ${env:RIFM_API_KEY}"
      }
    }
  }
}

Other agents

Any agent that connects to MCP servers over HTTP can use Rank It For Me.

  1. Point it at https://staging.rankitforme.com/mcp.
  2. If it supports sign-in (OAuth), use that. Otherwise create an API key under Account, then AI agents and send it as a bearer token.
MCP config
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "rankitforme": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://staging.rankitforme.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
      }
    }
  }
}

Ready-made workflows

The server comes with 7 workflows. Agents that support MCP prompts list them as commands, so you can start one without writing the instructions yourself.

  • Review this week’s list. Goes through the weekly list and suggests what to approve, dismiss and write first.
  • Fix pages that dropped. Finds pages that lost rankings or clicks and drafts fixes once you agree.
  • Beat a competitor. Looks up a competitor and picks the searches worth going after.
  • Find sites to ask for links. Lists sites that link to your competitors but not to you, with a short note to send each.
  • Win AI answers. Checks who AI assistants recommend and drafts pages for the questions you’re missing from.
  • What changed this week. Sums up the week: rankings that moved, links gained and lost, AI answers, and how published pages are doing.
  • Check site health. Explains the technical problems holding your site back, most important first.

What stays in your control

  • Agents save drafts. A draft goes to your store or blog only when the agent has the “Save to your site” permission, and it arrives there as a draft.
  • Publishing live needs the Growth or Pro plan, and you turn it on for each agent under Account, then AI agents. It’s off until you do.
  • Facts we couldn’t confirm stay marked in the draft, and publishing it live stops until they’re accepted.
  • Everything an agent does shows in its activity list, so you can see what changed and undo a publish.
  • An agent only reaches the sites in your account. Disconnecting it or revoking its key stops it on its next request.

Plans and limits

Connecting agents is part of every paid plan. Agents use the same monthly allowances you do:

  • Every draft counts toward your pages and fixes.
  • Competitor lookups, keyword research and Google checks count toward your lookups: 30 a month on Starter, 100 on Growth and 300 on Pro.
